Today's Throwback Thursday like last weeks throwback artist comes from New York. Unlike last week's artist which was Ma$se this artist comes from Brooklyn instead of Harlem. This artist is still currently making music and is considered one of the greatest of all time. From having a "Hard Knock Life" to being a "Nigga in Paris" today's Throwback Thursday song comes from none other than Jay-Z.
In My Lifetime Vol. 1, by Shawn Carters is his most personal album and it was released November 4, 1997. This was the early Roc-A-Fella stages when Jay and Dame were the perfect tag team and they saved Def Jam. His second album coming off the Gold selling album "Reasonable Doubt" which is a classic it shoulda went triple (Words of Jay-Z from the song "Blueprint" (Momma Loves Me). This is one of Jay-Z's most slept on solo albums because it didn't have a "smash" radio record and also it being his 2nd album the sophomore curse put doubt in most listeners heads.
Do your research on the sophomore curse in the world of hip-hop.
Like I stated above this is one of Jay's most personal album with songs such as "Lucky Me"and "Where I'm From" but we're not going to talk about those songs today. Today we're going to focus on a different song, a song that may have some of you that never heard this song look at Jay-Z a bit different. A song where the young Jay-Z talks selling drugs to a family member and shooting his own brother, today we're going to discuss the song titled "You Must Love Me." The last track on the album Shawn talks about three different stories he had encountered in his life and he shares personal experiences with his audience. All three of these stories may change your opinion on him as a person (the person you known thru music) or these stories may change your opinion just on his music. Either way I hope you enjoy!
