For the past week or so I've been listening to this Yo Gotti "I Am" album and I must say I have more good things to say about it than bad. After giving the album the infamous "in the ride" test I can say this album is a lot better than what I thought it was going to be. I expected nothing but trap songs with very little substance but Yo Gotti showcases the gift and the curse that comes with the street life.
Let's talk about the album....
The album starts off with the track titled after the album "I Am". This song features a sample from the Stack Bundles song "Ashes to Ashes" and in this song Gotti breaks down how he relates to the people. He explains how he came from the struggle and the streets just like his core audience. The production and the lyrics give you an understanding of what you're getting yourself into for the next 45 mins, it sets the tone for what I like to call quality street music.

told my dog I had a Mill and he aint believe me/
I told em cool for a brick bring me 22 even/
I was livin' Trap or Die for' I heard about Jeezy, fo real"
Following that is a song titled "Don't Come Around" pretty good song Gotti covered a few things within that song, but the real hit is after that song. The next song is catchy with a great hook and also has a dope beat. I can see this song being the follow up single to "Act Right". The song is titled "I Know" feat Rich Homie Quan. With Rich Homie delivering on the hook and a solid verse as well, look out for this song to take off and become a smash in the clubs.

Let's fast forward to the body of the album where we have songs like "Pride to the Side" and "Cold Blood" feat J. Cole.
Sidenote: I am the only one who realize 90% of J. Cole songs and songs he's feat in have "Cold" in the title? Back to the review tho.....
The song "Pride to the Side" Gotti speaks on having issues with the mother of his child. He mentions how times she held it down for him and also surprisingly touches on how she cheated on him. The second verse of the song is where Gotti talks about the negative side to the drug game. One of his old running mates turned from being a star athlete to known neighborhood addict. This is a well known curse of the drug game, having people you love and care for being addicted to the drugs that are making you street rich.
The track "Cold Blood" also showcases how the streets can change someone and eventually make their heart cold. This is good song with J. Cole on the hook and if Cole stayed on the hook and Gotti did all three verses it would be an even better song. J. Cole doesn't display the pain and struggle within his verse in my opinion.
Wrapping up the album you have the well known single "Act Right" feat Jeezy and YG but right before that is a street banger titled "ION Want It". This is another song to look out for in the clubs and also the strip clubs. In this song Gotti addresses the well known beef with Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane, although Gotti never said his name it's clear on who he's talking about.

In conclusion, I feel like this is a solid album top to bottom. It has its clubs records, its deep personal records, and your typical shit talking records such as "F-U" feat Meek Mill and "King Shit" feat TI. The album doesn't have too many features to the point its basically a compilation album. Two things that could have made this album even better would be to take J. Cole's verse off and only keep the hook and add one more song for an Outro. Overall a good album to get you through these winter months.
