Leader of the New School

Welcome back to First Class Blogs
There are two names that come to mind in hip hop when you talk about the leader of the new school.

One is Drake and the other is Kendrick Lamar

Let's focus on Mr. Lamar shall we.....
Throughout 2013 Kendrick has been the topic of several conversations from his "Control" verse to his "BET Hip Hop Cypher" and even his sophomore album.

Based off his ONE album (Which was a classic IMO and album of the year in 2012) can we honestly declare Kendrick Lamar "The Leader Of The New School"?

Sure he put a spark back into MC'ing and is trying his best to restore the lyricism back into hip hop. Which is great but with one studio album and so much shit talking this year I hope he doesn't fall victim of the "Sophomore Slump"

The Sophomore Slump is a "curse" that has been haunting rappers for year after major success from their first album. From Jay Z, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Jeezy, and a list of others. Its almost impossible to not fall victim.

Do not get me wrong I'm a huge K. Dot fan (as I stated above) but as of late there's been too much shit talking and not even great verses/music being made. Following his "Control" verse what has he done? The BET cypher was overrated, I can only remember 4 bars from the entire verse. The Eminem feature he had PURE TRASH BAGS, and we have yet to hear new solo music. Fuck he think he is Andre 3K?

So the whole leader of the new school thing is a little bit too soon, we need more of a catalog and more outstanding features. Do I think Kendrick is top 5 current rappers, yes. Do I think Kendrick has potential to become one of the greats, yes; but there has been too much "shit poppin" and not enough great music being produced.

If and when Drake decides to take off his R&B dress and becomes a full time rapper maybe this wouldn't be a debate
Maybe Kendrick needs to gain control and stop living off the hype from "Control"
