Yesterday June 3rd, 2012 was Hot 97 Summer Jam.
The line up Hot 97 had was crazy Jeezy, Big Sean, Pusha T, A$AP Rocky, Nicki Minaj, and a list of others. Yesterday was a nice day to get a few drinks, smoke something (if that's what you do), and listen to some dope music from your favorite artist. Unfortunately everything didn't go as planned at Summer Jam.
A few DJ's from Hot 97, Funk Flex and Peter Rosenberg, decided to throw jabs towards Nicki Minaj (the headlining artist)at Summer Jam resulting in her pulling herself out of the line up. Now what I don't understand is why have her headline the event if you're going to diss her? The artist headlining the event is the reason everyone comes and puts people in seats. So them dissing her is ruining their brand and not making them money, which is the opposite of what the goal is.
But. Moving. Right. Along
My reason for writing this blog is to ask,
Has Summer Jam lost it's edge?
and if so, Is it dying?
If you're a huge fan of the hip hop culture you know Summer Jam is like the Super Bowl of rap. This is when artist debut that smash single, bring out surprise appearances, and diss the rapper(s) that they always wanted to diss.
NONE OF THAT HAPPENED!!
I was expecting to have see a special appearance from an artist that wasn't on the line up, someone like Diddy but nope that didn't happen.
I was expecting for Pusha T to perform the world premier of his long awaited Little Wayne diss but nope that didn't happen.
I was expecting to get an epic moment in hip hop but nope that didn't happen.
Is Summer Jam becoming a regular event now?
Remember when epic shit happened at Summer Jam?
Jay-Z bringing Michael Jackson to Summer Jam and the crowd going crazy. I personally wasn't there to see it but damn the nigga had Michael Muthafuckin' Jackson at Summer Jam b surrounded by weed smoke, Hennessy, and niggas with felonies b. Or how about when Jay-Z did "Takeover" for this first time and had New York City going nuts. The whole Prodigy on the screen was fucking epic.
I can't remember the last dope thing that happened at Summer Jam, so my question is do you think it's losing its edge and becoming a regular event, or are artist not playing chess and using it to their advantage?
